Rotate Your Greens in Smoothies & Juicing—alkaloids are toxic!

Green Plants contain more than 100,000 phytonutrients, including the amino acids that create protein. The chlorophyll is a blood purifier, has anti-inflammatory properties, and is an antioxidant. Greens also have tiny amounts of toxins in them, called alkaloids. Alkaloids are produced by a large variety of organisms, which assists in the bodies purification, until over accumulated.
We should rotate our leaves every couple of day, including rotating the family of leaves. This is why animals graze. Our universe is designed for balance. On average, plant foods have 64 times more antioxidants than animal foods, and when it comes to antioxidants, the more we eat, the more we may benefit.

All raw leafy greens carry a small amount of toxins that protect plants from being entirely consumed by other animals—and wiping out the plant species. As humans, if we consume these toxins for long periods of time, they can build up and harm our thyroid. Some symptoms of alkaloid buildup are nausea, tingling in fingertips and fatigue. It's an easy fix, we need to learn to graze on a variety of leafy greens. One week you might buy Kale and Dandelions, and on the next shopping trip, you might buy Spinach and Carrot Tops. This will cover all four family groups!

There are several “families” of leafy greens. The leafy greens in each family have similar “DNA” including their own minor amount of toxins. By rotating the families of green leaves you can prevent alkaloid build-up and provide your body with a wide variety of nutrients that you would otherwise be missing out on.

LIST OF GREENS BY FAMILY:

Crucifers: Kale, Arugula, Collard Greens, Cabbage, Bok Choy, Mustard Greens, Kohlrabi herbs. Other vegetables: in this family: Broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, lettuce, horseradish, radish, and turnip.
Amaranth: Spinach, Beet Greens, Chard, Swiss Chard
Asteraceae: Dandelion Greens, Romaine Lettuce
Others: Daisy and Sunflower are in this family.
Apiaceae: Celery, Cilantro, Carrot Tops, Parsley

Cereal Grasses: Wheat grass juice and barley grass juice-Cereal grasses are a nutrient dense, high chlorophyll food. —Wheatgrass cleanses the lymph system, it restores balance in the body, it removes toxic metals from the cells, and it restores vitality. Barley grass improves stamina and increases energy, it provides clarity of thought, and it improves the texture of the skin.

The chlorophyll molecule is very similar to the heme portion of the hemoglobin molecule of red blood cells. Chlorophyll is a natural blood purifier and is often called "the blood of plant life." It provides management of bacterial growth, it removes unwanted residues, and it activates enzymes.  Chlorophyll is nutrient dense and it's an anti-inflammatory.  Due to its alkalizing qualities, chlorophyll also helps the body to be pH balanced.  Maintaining pH balance increases the body's resistance to disease.

How do I get my protein from drinking leaves? By drinking a pound of leaves a day!!

What is Protein?
Protein is a combination of amino acids, some of which need to be eaten in your food (essential amino acids) and some of which your body makes on its own (nonessential amino acids). The term complete protein refers to a protein that has all nine essential amino acids in good proportions to the bodies needs. Proteins from animals are complete since the animal already made the effort to combine the amino acids for its own body. Animal protein is also referred to as complex protein and has traditionally been thought to be superior to plant protein (keep reading to find out what new research says) which generally comes from combining various plants to accumulate all the essential amino acids in proper measure. The body then uses the amino acids to form complete proteins itself.

What does Your Body Do With Protein? Proteins become hormones, enzymes, antibodies, muscles; even the lens of your eye is made of protein. Protein transports oxygen and contracts your muscles. But the most important of it's exhaustive list of tasks is the building, maintaining and replacing of bodily tissue. Research shows that the body prefers that the protein actually come incomplete form (as individual amino acids) so that it can do it's job of combining them in the best possible way for it's various purposes. When the body receives complete or complex proteins it has to rip the amino acids apart and reassemble them accordingly. Amino acids from plant sources allow the body to skip that process and go right to the end game.

Everything has protein in it, so the effect of eating a variety of foods is the accumulation of all the essential amino acids. Nuts and seems have a lot of protein compared to fruits and vegetables but a lot of raw food diet advocates tout green leafy vegetables as a good source of protein! By using a variety of greens (in a great abundance I might add, up to one pound a day!) the body receives all the essential amino acids that it needs while also getting many other minerals, plenty of chlorophyll and lots of fiber. The Raw Food Diet changes the process of how my thoughts are formed, the subject of them, and the speed at which I move. I am frankly high on my pound of leaves a day! Time to go get a new family of leaves right now! I invite you on my adventure around the world in search of love and foods that make you feel HAPPY!
